After he left Notts
Gary signed for Forest Green Rovers in August 2002.
Owers became player-manager at Bath City in October 2003 and led them to sixth place in the Southern League Premier Division in 2005-2006, missing out on the play-offs on goal difference. He replaced Alan Lewer as manager in May 2005 of Forest Green Rovers after they had been relegated from the Conference. However, they got a surprise reprieve as Northwich's ground failed to meet Conference rules, meaning they were relegated with Forest Green taking their place. Owers joked that he mad managed to get promoted without playing a game. In his first season in charge of Forest Green, he led the team to 19th place in the Conference avoiding relegation on the last day of the season with a 2-0 victory over Stevenage Borough. However, the 2006-2007 started off disastrously and Owers was sacked after losing the first four fixtures. He was in charge for just 15 months. Also manager of Weston-super-Mare AFC for last few games of 2006-2007 season.. He has now joined Minehead |
