Colin Calderwood was named the permanent successor to Megson.

Calderwood sacked 'Charlie' at the end of the 2006-7 season after a catastrophic 2-5 home defeat by Yeovil in the League One play-offs after they had won the away leg 2-0.  Overconfidence? The 'Forest at Wembley 2007' t-shirts for sale on Ebay after the first leg could be a clue.

October 2007 saw Charlie appointed manager of Notts County.

It didn't happen, but when that newspaper's editor Barrie Williams joined the Nottingham Evening Post, he gave the ex-player his break.

For a number of years Dave's job was to describe to Evening Post and Football Post readers the action from Meadow Lane where he earned a living as a player in the 1970s.

His subject matter broadened and he became deputy features editor, writing on anything from Nottinghamshire's marginal wartime oil industry to heroes of the National Hunt even returning from Cheltenham with a feature about Gold Cup favourite Desert Orchid... and a tidy wedge after backing the winner, the 100-1 nag Norton's Coin.

He is now The Times's man in the press boxes of the Midlands, and the author of an admired biography of Magpies legend Tommy Lawton which he followed up by publishing the diaries he wrote as a teenage recruit at Meadow Lane entitled Steak… Diana Ross.

Bobby MIMMS

At Notts 1986 (loan)

After his spell on loan at Notts Mimms returned to Everton who finished runners up in the league championship and Mimms also played in the FA Cup Final of 1986.

He moved to Tottenham and then on to Blackburn at the time of the "Jack Walker revolution" at Ewood Park.  Blackburn began the 1991-92 season well and reached the playoff final where they beat Leicester City 1-0 - ending 26 years outside the top flight.  The following season Mimms was a key part of the team which finished 4th in the 1992-93 season..

Sadly for Mimms Southampton goalkeeper Tim Flowers was then brought in as the new number one and Blackburn went on to enjoy the victorious 1994-95 Premiership winning side.

Mimms joined Crystal Palace and then spent the remaining years of his career at various lower league clubs such as Preston North End, Rotherham United, hometown club York City and finished off his playing career at Mansfield Town.
